FAQs about climbing frames
Do climbing frames need to be anchored?
Many climbing frames in the outdoortoys range require anchors to keep the structure secure during play. Suitable anchor options are available with selected models. Always follow the installation guidance for your specific frame.
What should I put underneath a climbing frame?
Grass is a common option, but for extra impact protection you can use play bark, rubber mulch, safety tiles or other impact-absorbing surfacing designed for children’s play equipment. Avoid installing a climbing frame over hard surfaces such as concrete, paving or decking.
Whichever surface you choose, make sure the ground is level and check the individual product guidance for any specific installation requirements.
Are wooden climbing frames weather-resistant?
This varies by model. Many Rebo and ClassicPlay frames use pressure-treated timber designed for outdoor use, while some PolarPlay models are supplied untreated, allowing you to choose your own protective finish.
Check the product page for the timber treatment and maintenance requirements of your chosen frame.
What tools do I need to assemble a climbing frame?
Assembly requirements vary, but larger wooden climbing frames commonly need tools such as a drill, screwdriver and measuring tape.
Some timber isn’t pre-drilled, so it’s worth checking the product information before you start. Full assembly instructions are provided with each frame.
What platform height should I choose?
outdoortoys offers climbing frames with platform heights from 60 cm to 150 cm. Lower platforms can suit younger or less confident climbers, while taller platforms can offer more challenge as children grow.
Check the dimensions and recommended age on each product page before choosing.
