FAQs
What age are playhouses suitable for?
Our kids' playhouses are designed for children aged 3 and up. Many of our styles grow with your child, just add features like slides, swings or monkey bars as they get older.
Can I customise a wooden playhouse?
Yes! Use our playhouse upgrades to paint, decorate and personalise your wooden playhouse. Let your little one help choose colours or add their name to the door for a truly special touch.
What’s the difference between a playhouse and a Wendy house?
They’re essentially the same. Both offer a child-sized space for imaginative play. 'Wendy house' is a traditional British term, while 'playhouse' is more commonly used today. We stock both classic and modern designs.
Do playhouses come with slides and swings?
Some do! Check out our playhouses with slides, playhouses with swings, and monkey bar options for added adventure.
Can I paint a playhouse?
Absolutely! We stock several wood stains and coloured paints to customise your child's new abode. Give them the freedom to express their creativity, and if you’ve got a pair lying around, why not dress them in overalls so they can even participate in the painting!
You can find multi-purpose exterior wood stain on our site, available in baby pink, cornflower blue and parsonage cream.

Do I need planning permission for a playhouse?
In most cases, you don’t need planning permission for a playhouse in the UK, especially if it’s a standard-sized garden structure. To stay within permitted development rights, ensure the playhouse:
- Is no taller than 2.5m (if within 2m of your boundary)
- Doesn’t include a raised platform over 30cm
- Isn’t used as a dwelling or for business
- Is placed on domestic land (not in front of your home)
Different rules may apply if your property is listed or in a designated area (like a conservation area). Always check with your local planning authority before installation to be sure.
